New CEO of the University Association of South Iceland.

Ingveldur Sæmundsdóttir

Ingveldur Sæmundsdóttir has been appointed CEO of the University Association of South Iceland. She takes over from Ingunn Jónsdóttir and will lead the continued development and growth of the association.

The University Association of South Iceland is a leader in South Iceland in providing higher education in collaboration with lifelong learning centers in cooperation with Icelandic and foreign universities. The association also develops continuing education for the business community in the region and supports profitable and diverse research. Furthermore, the University Association is a powerful platform for research institutions and companies, as well as connecting knowledge through thriving projects.

Ingveldur has extensive experience in public administration, policy-making and project management. From 2013-2025, she worked as an assistant to the Minister, Sigurður Ingi Jóhannsson on the one hand and Sigrún Magnúsdóttir on the other, first in the Ministry of the Environment and Natural Resources, then in the Ministry of Transport and Local Government, then the Ministry of Infrastructure and most recently in the Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs. Ingveldur holds an MBA from the University of Iceland and has worked on a variety of projects related to infrastructure development, policy and vision.

The University Association of South Iceland was founded on December 19, 2007 and is owned by 14 municipalities in South Iceland as well as the Association of Southern Municipalities, whose main role is to increase the quality of life and strengthen the economy in South Iceland by operating a strong knowledge network in the region.

The recruitment process was led by the company Mägnun and Ingveldur was deemed the most qualified to fill the position, but 17 applications were received for the position.

Ingveldur starts work on June 3rd.
