Doctoral student Magdalena Falter defended her doctoral thesis in tourism on Thursday 16th of May at the University of Iceland. Her supervisor was dr. Gunnar Þór Jóhannesson, professor at the Faculty of Life and Environmental Sciences, University of Iceland.
Magdalena received a grant from the Science and Research Foundation of Suðurland in 2019 for the project. A big part of the project was the creation of a hackathon called Hacking Hekla. Magdalena therefore worked alongside her doctoral research in the shoes of the entrepreneur with innovation in the South, that later spread it´s wings throughout the country.
The project is entitled Rethinking tourism through digital innovation? Entrepreneurs in rural tourism in Iceland (Rethinking tourism through digital innovation? Rural tourism entrepreneurs in Iceland). It discusses digital innovation and challenges for rethinking tourism with a focus on lifestyle entrepreneurs in rural areas.
Congratulations Magdalena!
